5 Ways to Avoid a Squeaking Door

Are you wondering When should I replace my front door? because it has become squeaky? Windows and doors are the most important part of your home. If you have a squeaking door, then there are some things that you can do to avoid it. This issue often starts when the hinges on your door get crooked or lose some of their lubricants. Here are some tips which will help to avoid this problem in the future.

1) Check everything before closing

Make sure that you inspect all hinges and knobs before closing your doors for the night. If any part is misaligned or broken, fix it immediately so that it doesn’t become worse over time.

2) Apply wax to the hinges

Allowing more lubricant to get into these creases will make them operate smoother and prevent squeaks from occurring when you shut your door. You dont need very much; just enough to cover a pea is enough.

3) Tighten any loose screws

Loose hinges can make your doors squeak, so tighten all of the ones that you find. This might seem like common sense, but many people don’t think about it until they hear noise coming from their door. A little elbow grease and tightening will go a long way in keeping them stable.

4) Oil the joints between sections of wood

If you need to replace some sections of your door because of damage, then oil each joint where two separate pieces meet together before putting them back in place. If they stick and become difficult to move when using them later, then reapply some lubricant and wait for it to dry before trying again.

5) Invest in a door bottom or threshold seal

If you still hear squeaks even after trying everything mentioned above, then it is probably time for you to invest in some sort of door bottom or threshold seal. These devices screw into place and prevent any air from seeping into the space between your floor and your door, which can reduce noise significantly.

Good Luck!
